Oulton Hall Hotel is a grade II-listed mansion set in acres of countryside, on the edge of Leeds. It’s a 20-minute drive into Leeds city centre, or to various attractions like the Royal Armouries Museum and Tropical World. But you probably come here for the R&R. And that’s easy.

For starters, there’s an Elemis spa, complete with an indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and relaxation room. You can choose from pampering in all forms – from facials and manicures to lashes and brows. The health club also has a gym, with a full timetable of Pilates, aqua workouts and core-strengthening sessions. Golfers will be in their element with two golf courses, totalling 27 holes. There’s also a driving range, a putting green and a golf shop.

And you can refuel at a couple of restaurants and bars. The Calverley Grill has an elevated menu of seabass, pork belly and risotto, along with options for kids. The Claret Jug, which has views over the golf greens, specialises in pub classics and Sunday lunches. Or, you can go all fancy with a visit to the Champagne Bar, or afternoon tea in the Drawing Room.
